The northern coastline of the Dominican Republic is considered by many to be one of the last unspoiled, pristine island destinations in the world. Hugging the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the north coast of the Dominican Republic extends from the Haitian boarder to the eastern most tip of the Samana Peninsula. Along this 200 mile long oceanfront are at least two dozen of the 27 different micro-climates within the Dominican Republic.
The northern coast is fairly sparsely populated, particularly when compared to the rest of the country. Only about half a million of the over 8 million Dominican citizens live along the north coast. However, the low density of population does not mean that there is nothing to do!
Indeed, the Amber Coast (between Cofresi and Cabrera) is an adventurer’s delight with everything from mountain biking to wind surfing. Almost any adventure sport is available here: biking, horseback riding, wind & kite surfing, scuba diving, eco-tourism, deep sea fishing and much more. As an added bonus, the northern coast is dotted with splendid golden and white sand beaches.
One of the most highly rated beaches, rated as one of the top ten in the world by Conde Nast Traveler, is the Playa Grande Beach. Located between Rio San Juan and Cabrera, the Playa Grande Beach is over a mile long of deep, golden sand with exciting waves perfect for surfing or boogie boarding. The Playa Grande Beach is about 7 miles from the luxury vacation villa of Villa Flor de Cabrera.
When you are in residence in Villa Flor de Cabrera, please take the time to get out and visit the local area. It’s very easy to spend an entire week in the villa and totally forget you are surrounded by some of the most beautiful, unspoiled territory in the world. Get out, check it out and you will be delighted with what you discover! |
